Jarrette Thomas Campbell II Memorial Scholarship
In December 1993, Jarrette Thomas Campbell II was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Shortly after his surgery, he lapsed into a coma and remained in the hospital for four months. When he awoke, it was determined that he had suffered brain damage that left him with significantly reduced function. He faced monumental challenges, such as relearning to feed and dress himself, and he adjusted to his new lifestyle. He remastered many skills we may take for granted.
Jarrette met life head on, never complaining about his situation. He faced each day with a smile and the drive to improve. He completed high school as an honor graduate and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.
Jarrette’s mother, Jo Anne Thomas, offers this scholarship as a tribute to him and the love he had for life and learning. This scholarship honors Jarrette’s life and memory by providing two (2) $500 scholarships to students attending a college, university, or trade school.
Ideal scholarship candidates are members or active participants of New Creation UMC and attending or will be attending a college, university, or trade school in the upcoming academic year. Please submit a scholarship application and a brief essay discussing your chosen field of study, sharing examples of how you have sought to live out the qualities and characteristics that Jarrette demonstrated.
The application must placed in the Youth Ministry mailbox in the church office or given to Kym Pool no later than May 25, 2024.
